Praggnanandhaa: My Journey, Mindset & Future Goals

Float Chess News | 22nd July 2026

Following his historic victory at Norway Chess 2026, Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa sat down to discuss his training regimen, mental toughness, and what lies ahead in his chess career.

"Winning in Stavanger was a special feeling, especially against such a strong field," Pragg said. "But for me, the focus is always on the quality of my games. If I play well, the results will come."

Pragg credited his sister, GM R Vaishali, and his coach, GM RB Ramesh, for keeping him grounded and focused during the high-pressure tournament. He explained that managing nervous energy has been his biggest area of growth over the past year, allowing him to stay calm even when facing difficult positions against players like Magnus Carlsen.

Looking ahead, Praggnanandhaa's ultimate goal is the World Championship cycle. "Every chess player dreams of becoming the World Champion. It is a long journey, and there is still so much to learn and improve. I am just taking it one game at a time."
