Indian speed chess specialist Nihal Sarin achieved a historic milestone by winning the gold medal at the World Blitz Chess Championship, defeating an elite field in a thrilling blitz battle.
Nihal, renowned for his lightning-fast calculation and incredible defensive resourcefulness under extreme time pressure, finished the tournament with an impressive score of 16.5/21.
The decisive moment came in the final round, where Nihal defeated French Grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in a highly theoretical Sicilian Defense. Nihal's rapid piece play and tactical awareness forced MVL into a time scramble, securing the classical checkmate combination.
