The Indian youth chess contingent produced an outstanding performance at the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2026, capturing a total of four medals, including two golds.
In the Under-16 Open section, young FIDE Master Rohan Sen clinched the gold medal with a dominant score of 8.0/9, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament. His deep opening preparation and tactical awareness proved too strong for his opponents.
In the Under-14 Girls category, Ananya Gupta secured the gold medal in a dramatic final round, outplaying her opponent in a tense King's Indian Defense to win by a half-point margin.
Additionally, India won a silver in the Under-18 Open and a bronze in the Under-12 category, finishing near the top of the overall medal standings. The performance underscores India's continuing status as a powerhouse in youth chess development.
